About Vals

Covering an area of less than 200 square kilometres, Vals has a lot to offer – from wild nature to world-famous architecture.

Vals – The Mountain Village

Vals is a small village in the Surselva region of the canton of Grisons. The name Vals is derived from the Romansh word ‘val’, meaning ‘in the valley’. And that’s exactly where this little mountain village lies. Deep in the Vals valley.

Vals is home to 1000 people and 1000 sheep. There is also room for 1000 tourists. Covering an area of almost 176 square kilometres, the village square is characterised by Walser houses made of Vals quartzite. Vals is also home to the bottling plant for the famous Vals water and architectural highlights such as the Therme Vals spa. The other half of the municipality consists of meadows and pastures.
