Architecture Tour
In Vals, architecture lovers will find an unique combination of alpine landscape and modern architecture. Discover the breathtaking ...

The residential and commercial building «Haus Balma» in Vals is a unique place where architecture, nature, and craftsmanship come together in a compelling dialogue. Guided tours offer insights into the concept, materials, and the interplay between tradition and contemporary architecture.

Truffer AG is a family-owned company based in Vals and active across the entire value chain of Valser quartzite – from extraction in its own quarry to processing at its workshop in Vals. It is one of Switzerland’s leading companies in the field of high-quality natural stone processing.
The company’s passion for architecture is also reflected in its new office building, which Truffer AG realised in Vals together with Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. The project presents Valser stone in a distinctive and unexpected way – an exceptional building that blends harmoniously into the alpine village landscape while setting new architectural accents.
Stone, wood, glass, and metal define a reduced architectural language inspired by the idea of stones seemingly floating above the valley. This creates a striking interplay of lightness and mass, referencing local building traditions while reinterpreting them in a contemporary way.
The materials that define the exterior façade are also reflected in the interior. Flexible uses range from the cultural and meeting space in the basement to work, exhibition, and residential areas on the upper floors. The central staircase connects several levels and creates a striking spatial experience.
The house is conceived as a place of encounter and inspiration. Guided tours offer visitors insights into its architecture, materials, and the philosophy behind the project.
Haus Balma is open to the public during office hours.
An integrated shop presents and sells selected stone objects.
Guided tours of the building are also available on request.
