Looking for an alpine challenge? Pizzo Cassinello is rightly one of the most climbed peaks in the Valser Valley. At over three thousand metres, it offers spectacular views of the Ticino mountains as far as the Valais and the Bernese and Glarus Alps.
As its name suggests, it is part of the border ridge with Ticino and borders on the Valle di Blenio. With its small ice field, it rises majestically above the flat valley floor of the Länta and, built of silvery gneiss, contrasts beautifully with the green meadows and pastures of Lampertschalp.
Thanks to its proximity to the Rifugio Länta (SAC) and the Passo Soreda, Pizzo Cassinello is one of the most climbed peaks in the Valser valley. And rightly so – the surrounding glaciated landscape and the views over the Ticino mountains to the Valais and the Bernese and Glarus Alps are spectacular.
The climb from Passo Soreda to the summit is over impressive gneiss slabs and light scree. Snow can cover the tracks well into the summer, but in clear weather the route is easy. For the more adventurous, there are small lakes along the descent for a refreshing dip.
