The trail leads past one of the oldest houses in Vals, the Abersch Hus. The Peiltal valley is dotted with farmsteads and ‘tachli’ (hay roofs) and lush green hay meadows that give way to alpine pastures as you climb. Rugged rocky outcrops, numerous watercourses and alluvial vegetation on the valley floor give the rear Peiltal a special scenic charm. From the Valserberg you can enjoy a magnificent view of the San Bernardino Pass and the peaks of Vals and the surrounding area.

Until the link road to Ilanz was built in 1879/80, all goods were transported south over the Valserberg to Hinterrhein. Legend has it that the Valser mountain porters carried heavy loads over the mountain, especially in winter. Cattle were also driven over the mountain to the southern markets of Bellenz (Bellinzona) and Lauis (Lugano).
