Grisons offers an extensive network of trails open to both hikers and bikers, as long as both groups practice mutual respect. This is known as Fairtrail.
In Grisons, mountain biking is officially allowed on hiking trails. To accommodate the different needs of hikers and bikers, the region has established a set of simple guidelines. The Fairtrail Grisons initiative promotes peaceful trail coexistence with the slogan “Nice, clean, and ready.” The programme is supported by celebrity ambassador Nino Schurter, mountain bike world champion and Olympic gold medalist.
If you’re on a bike, a hiker might look at you as if you were on a forbidden path. But that’s not the case: in Graubünden, cycling on hiking trails is generally permitted unless there is an official ban on cycling. Of course, hikers can expect special consideration from cyclists, who always have the right of way.
